Priced at Rs 75.45-lakh, the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition is a limited edition version of the standard Cayman S that brings exclusive styling and more power for enthusiasts.
After launching the “oh-so-desirable” Black Editions of the venerable 911 and the Boxster, Porsche has gone at it again, with a new Black Edition of the Boxster’s hard-top cousin, the Cayman. The Cayman S Black Edition is a special edition of the mid-engined coupe which is limited to only 500 units and which boasts improved performance and an upgraded equipment specification. The 3.4-litre six cylinder boxer engine which sits just aft of the cabin has been uprated in terms of its power output and now delivers 330hp at 7,400rpm, which is about 10hp more than the standard Cayman S. The torque figure, which is 370Nm at 4,750rpm, remains the same as in the standard car.
With more horsepower on tap, there has been a slight bump in performance as well. The dash from zero to 100km/h comes up in 5.1 seconds when switching cogs with the six-speed manual transmission and 5.0 seconds when the cutting-edge PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe) dual-clutch gearbox is used. Both these figures are one-tenth of a second quicker than those on the standard Cayman S. But when the Black is opted with the Sports Chrono Package, the addition of Launch Control further quickens this time to a scant 4.8 seconds. Even the top speed on this limited edition Cayman is higher by 2km/h, at 279km/h with the manual gearbox and 277km/h with the PDK. The addition of the Boxster Spyder wheels, which, at 19-inches in diameter, are bigger and wider than those on the standard Cayman S, allow the use of 235/35 ZR 19s tyres at the front and 265/35 ZR 19s tyres at the rear. This goes a long way in improving the handling of the car, in addition to the added straight line performance.
The Cayman S Black Edition also features Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights and LED daytime running lights as well as automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor. Driver and front seat passenger sit on black partial leather seats with Porsche crest on the headrests. The colour scheme in the interior also stays true to the car’s name with the dashboard trim, gear lever and the instrument cluster all finished in black. The door entry guards emblazoned with the lettering “Black Edition” are made of stainless steel; the glove compartment lid bears the badge proclaiming the limited edition status. Equipped with Sound Package Plus, the Cayman S Black Edition’s infotainment systems are controlled via Porsche Communication Management (PCM). This also includes, for example, the navigation module and universal audio interface.
